SOUTHPORT — A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Tuesday afternoon. The MTA says it happened just after 1:45 p.m. west of the Southport station on the Northbound side of the tracks.

The train #86 was traveling from Richmond, VA to Boston.

Fairfield Police say a woman was laying in the tracks when a train approached her. The conductor spotted her and was able to stop the train. That’s when, police say, she jumped in front of the Amtrak train. Her identity has not been released.

MTA Police are on the scene investigating. Metro North New Haven line service is delayed at this time.
