VERNON — A Connecticut man has been convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl.
The Courant reports that a Rockville Superior Court jury deliberated for about three hours over two days before finding 47-year-old Daniel Wine guilty on Wednesday.
Wine was convicted of 16 charges, including five counts of first-degree sexual assault. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 8.
Authorities say the victim was friend of Wine’s daughter and he molested her during sleepovers when she was from 7 to 12 years old.
Wine denied the charges on the stand and his lawyer said the girl fabricated the abuse to help Wine’s wife, who wanted a divorce.
Wine’s former wife has been sentenced to five years behind bars for abetting the abuse.
