ENFIELD -- For the first time, a Connecticut family allowed visitors inside their more than 200-year old Enfield home, except it's no ordinary home, it's referred to as the "Demon House."

Considered one of the  most famous haunted house in Connecticut, "the Demon House," was featured on Animal Planet's series "The Haunted" in 2009 and on Discovery Channel's "A Haunting" in 2014.

On Saturday night, Jay Yaple and wife Elka opened their home to more than a dozen people as part of an open house to show what the family has been living through.

"We believe we were able to get one of the spirits out that was really nasty, and believe it's safe for people to come in the house now," Jay Yaple told the visitors.

The Yaple's purchased the home on 37 Prospect Street in 2005  and have lived there since.

The home was built in 1771, and town historians believe between 22-24 people have met unusual and grim deaths inside the home.

"Either people related in the house, or family members who lived with the people who end up dying from gunshot wounds to suicide, from falling down the stairs-- to people hemorrhaging, you name it, people died," said Yaple.

The family says a doctor who lived at the home in the 1930's shot himself in the head in the living room,  shortly after murdering two people, including a  woman he had an affair with.

In the living room of the home, there are bloodstains that remain, which the family believes happened after the man's body hit the floor.

"My investigators were attacked, and burnt, scratching their kids, making blood appear in the basement, calling my name in the basement, this is the house that changed my life," said Matthew Kondracki, a hunter who was part of a paranormal team first called upon to investigate.

In 2007, the family contacted Connecticut Paranormal, who work closely with Father Bob Bailey, a priest and veteran demonologist. One day,  Elka says she heard these words come over the baby monitor: "You are all going to die!"

Soon after, during a investigation, the Yaples heard a loud crash come from their children's bedroom. When they ran into the room they found bloody hand-prints on the baby's crib. Incredibly, there were no signs of blood anywhere on the children.

"What was weird about these scratches is, as soon as they would get them, they would disappear," Yaple said.

The family say it took years of visits from paranormal investigators and priests to calm the evil spirits inside the home to allow visitors to enter safely.

The family has been told by these experts that if they move away from the home, the spirits will follow them, so it's best to stay put.

"It's been hard to live a normal life and we're just kind of stuck," Yaple said.
