2 pedestrians injured in East Haven hit and run

EAST HAVEN — Two people were injured when a driver struck them while they were walking and then fled the scene.

Police said the incident happened at 90 Short Beach Rd. around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said the silver SUV that struck the pedestrians sustained front end passenger side damage. A witness told police they saw the vehicle driving the opposite direction and cross the double yellow line, barreling towards them but missing them, just before the witness saw the victims.

The two victims were conscious and alert when EMS arrived and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Police are investigating the accident.
