NEW HARTFORD--An American classic, custom-made in Connecticut, is reemerging in the music business.
New Hartford-based Ovation Guitars is back after closing up production in July of last year.
During its heyday, Ovation made about 30,000 guitars a year. Today, it's starting over small, with a small band of former workers--about seven or eight of them.
"When I came to work here in 1993, we were making 80 guitars a day," Darren Wallace, Ovation's operations manager, said. "Our goal right now is two to three guitars a day."
Ovation is putting out five sets of limited edition guitars to start. The plan is to have 300 of them ready for market by the beginning of March.
