NORTH HAVEN–A man has been arrested after an alleged case of road rage in which a weapon was displayed.

Around 5:45 p.m. on Monday, a 56-year-old 911 caller said that he was being threatened by another person on the road while driving on Route 15. The caller said that the suspect was a white man driving a white SUV, and that he was screaming at him while they drove. The caller also said the suspect had waved a large machete at him out of his car window.

Police found the suspect and followed him from Meriden to exit 59 in New Haven, at which point the suspect got off Route 15 onto Route 69. State Police quickly pulled him over.

When stopped, the driver, Richard Walzak, 43, of Fairfield, allowed police to search his car, and officers found a large machete under the passenger’s seat.

Walzak denied having been involved in a road rage incident, and refused to give a statement as to how the victim would know he had a machete in his car.

Walzak was arrested and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and threatening in the second degree. He was released on a $3,000 bond and is due in court November 9.
