HARTFORD — A Bridgeport man will serve 17 years in prison for stealing firearms from a Massachusetts gun factory and selling many of them on the street, including some used in crimes as far away as North Carolina.

Elliot Perez of Bridgeport was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Hartford. He pleaded guilty in February 2014 to conspiracy to possess and sell stolen firearms and other charges.

Prosecutors say that in November 2012, Perez, who was a truck driver for Pace Motor Lines, picked up five boxes of guns from the Smith & Wesson facility in Springfield. He was supposed to deliver them to the trucking company’s distribution center in Stratford, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office, but instead sold them in Bridgeport with Michael Murphy, who also pleaded guilty.

Perez allegedly grabbed another three boxes at the manufacturing plant, which he delivered to an associate before making his planned trip to the distribution center with the original five boxes.

The three stolen boxes contained 111 firearms, many of which Perez and his associate stored and ultimately sold.

U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly says one stolen gun was used in a Bridgeport murder and another in a Hartford shooting, which involved former Aaron Hernandez friend Alexander Bradley.
