SHELTON--At Trap Falls Reservoir in Shelton, the folks at Aquarion Water Company monitor daily the water levels to determine how significant the water deficit is in Connecticut.

The decreased water level is visible at the Trap Falls Reservoir, as well as other reservoirs Aquarion manages.

According to Peter Fazekas, with the Aquarion Water Company, "Seasonally high temperatures, seasonally low precipitation, and water demand that is 12 percent higher when compared to last year."

And it isn't getting much better. This week is expected to be sunny and warm, with much of the state seeing highs reaching 70 degrees through Friday.

And that’s why they’re hoping their 625,000 customers will use start using less water in any way possible.

"Take quicker showers, don’t run the water when  shaving, don’t run your dishwasher or washing machine if it’s not full," said Fazekas.

The Trap Falls Reservoir is currently at 55 percent capacity, which is low enough to trigger voluntary restrictions for the residents that get water from the it. However, Aquarion says it would take a much greater water deficit for those voluntary restrictions to become "involuntary."
