MIDDLETOWN — A 36-year-old Connecticut man has been charged with illegally collecting almost $13,000 in unemployment benefits.

The state’s Division of Criminal Justice says Michael Pasquale, of Middletown, was arrested Thursday and charged with unemployment compensation fraud and first degree larceny by defrauding a public community.

Officials say Pasquale fraudulently collected about $12,784 in unemployment benefits from April through November 2013 when he was actually working as a helper for a Killingworth heating and cooling business.

Pasquale was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court Nov. 10. He faces at least a year in prison and up to $15,000 in fines for the first degree larceny charge.

It could not be immediately determined if Pasquale has a lawyer.
