WETHERSFIELD — Records show customers at the state Department of Motor Vehicles have endured longer wait times despite a computer overhaul last summer and assurances by officials that long lines would be shortened.
A public records request by The Hartford Courant shows the average wait time in the last seven days of September was about 98 minutes, up from 37 minutes in same period last year.
The average wait in October jumped to 95 minutes from about 31 minutes in the same month last year.
Commissioner Andres Ayala Jr. said the DMV is reviewing the data closely and that it’s critical the agency be faster and more responsive.
The DMV closed all 19 locations in August to install a new computer system, but many customers reported wait times as long as seven hours.
