HARTFORD–A new ad for Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign that was set up by one of his Super PACs has some people very angry.

In the ad, which was not authorized by Cruz or his campaign, the voice pits Cruz against Marco Rubio, showing all that Cruz has done and how little Rubio has.

The line that has many mad, especially in Connecticut, was a reference to gun laws post-Sandy Hook.

“After Sandy Hook, Ted Cruz stopped Obama’s push for new gun control laws,” the voice over in the ad says.

Here is the full ad:

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy was outraged by the ad, which was posted on the YouTube page for Mountiantop Media, which handles polling, TV, radio, mail, social media and Internet advertising for conservative candidates and organizations, such as Courage Conservatives PAC, the organization that created and paid for the ad.

Candidates for public office cannot communicate with, speak to or coordinate with Super PACs, according to federal laws, so Ted Cruz had no involvement in the ad’s content or message.

In his statement about the ad, Democratic Sen. Murphy says it made him want to vomit. Here is his full statement:

The new Ted Cruz ad makes me want to throw up, and I’m pretty sure that’s a feeling shared by many who lived through the horror of Sandy Hook. If Ted Cruz wants to brandish his pro-gun credentials to Republican primary voters, that’s his right. But it’s sick that he thinks he’ll win votes by specifically pointing out that in the wake of 20 dead first graders, he was the face of the fight to ensure no action was taken to stop more deranged killers from walking into elementary schools with military-style assault weapons loaded with 30-round clips of ammunition. Showing off how callous he was in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting may win him some right wing votes that get swept up from Donald Trump or Ben Carson, but it disqualifies him in a general election. Middle-of-the-road, common sense voters support measures like expanded background checks. But more importantly, they won’t be impressed by a campaign whose opening pitch to voters is portraying the candidate as the one SEnator who took on the parents of Sandy Hook in the wake of the most horrific mass shooting in our lifetime.

If you want to read the text from the YouTube video, here it is:

We all loved how Marco Rubio took apart Jeb Bush in the debate. Wasn’t it great? But what’s Rubio ever done? Anything? Other than his Gang of Eight Amnesty bill, can anyone think of anything Marco Rubio’s ever done? Anything at all besides amnesty? Marco Rubio looks good on TV, but that’s about it. Ted Cruz for President. Ted Cruz walks tall for what we believe. Standing up. Often standing alone. Ted Cruz makes things happen. After Sandy Hook, Ted Cruz stopped Obama’s push for new gun control laws. Obama’s plan to stop Israel flights amounted to an economic boycott. Ted Cruz stopped it. And when Chuck Schumer and Marco Rubio tried to push amnesty, it was Ted Cruz who stopped them. Rubio or Cruz? Which one do you trust?

Courageous Conservatives Pac paid for this ad and is solely responsible for its contents. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.
