DANBURY--- One year later,  and still no closure for the family of a young Bethel mother killed after a deadly hit-and-run accident.

Rachel Sack, 23, died after a car hit her while she was walking in Danbury last November.  On Saturday night, her  loved ones are making sure the public doesn't forget about this unsolved case.

"We still don`t have the answers we want, We're hoping this gets it back out there," said Stephanie Ewund, Sack's close friend.

Friends, family and community leaders gathered to remember Rachel Saturday night in a candlelight vigil ceremony at the very intersection where she was killed.

She died on November 8, 2014. The driver who slammed into her near Great Pasture Road took off and police never found him or her.

"She was a special and caring person, and to care less about a person like that is just a horrible thing to do," said Rachel's father, Gerard Sack.

Sack was a nurse aide for regional hospice facility, and many of her co-workers turned out for Saturday's ceremony.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton told the crowd she gave "dignity to her patients"

Boughton tells FOX 61 Danbury Police have possible persons of interests in finding the driver who might be responsible.

"We will find the person who did this. It is only a matter of time. We have the best detectives in the state working on it," Boughton said.

The Sack family recently doubled the reward its offering to anyone with information that could lead to an arrest.

The family is now offering a $10,000 reward.

In the meantime, Gerard Sack is trying to find a way to make people realize what the true consequences are from being involved in a hit-and-run accident.

Sack would like to make it easier for drivers to realize how to help people in those situations because he believes his daughter could have survived if the driver didn't flee the scene.

"Call 911 and do whatever it takes hopefully keep that person alive. There was a possibility Rachel might have survived," Sack said.

On the weekend of the one-year anniversary of Sack’s death, her loved ones gathered for a memorial service at Sack’s former workplace, Regional Hospice.

Danbury police said they are still looking for the driver of a white van captured on surveillance video around the time of the accident. He or she is not considered a suspect but a person of interest who might have seen something helpful for the case, investigators said.

Police added that they continue to follow each and every lead in Sack’s case but that the leads are dwindling.
