NEW HAVEN  — A  judge says a doctor accused of fatally shooting a Yale University physician should be medicated against his will so he can be competent to stand trial.

New Haven Superior Court Judge Thomas O’Keefe Jr. ruled Wednesday that Lishan Wang should be given anti-psychotic medications by force. Wang insists he’s competent and doesn’t need medications, and his public defender plans to appeal the unusual ruling.

Wang, a Chinese citizen from Beijing, is charged with murder in the 2010 killing of Dr. VajinderToor outside Toor’s Branford home and attempted murder for allegedly shooting at Toor’s pregnant wife, who wasn’t injured.

Authorities say the shooting appeared to stem from a 2008 dispute Wang had with Toor and other doctors while they worked together at a New York City hospital.
