UTRECHT, Netherlands--A former colleague here at FOX 61 spoke with us via Skype about life in Europe following the Paris attacks and the subsequent raids on suspected terrorist cells.

Cate Misczuk, 23, moved with her fiancée to the Netherlands several months ago when he was admitted to a graduate program in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Misczuk said the Dutch refuse to allow the terrorists to win, and that they are trying to restore a sense of normalcy.

"I feel very safe here in the Netherlands, especially in Utrecht, it's a smaller city," Misczuk said.

While Misczuk said there are no obvious signs of increased security, it appears as though the Netherlands continues to take in more Syrian refugees.

"I know here in Utrecht they're even opening up some new housing for them," Misczuk reported.

Despite that, she noted there have been protests for and against the refugees. "But I think for the most part people are welcoming here," Misczuk said.
