DERBY - A little guy is making a big impression every time he visits patients at Griffin Hospital in Derby.

Baby Cakes has been doing the rounds for eight years as the smallest dog in the dog therapy program at the hospital.

The are 12 dogs in the program -- small, medium and large ones -- but the hospital selected the 14-year-old Chihuahua-Terrier mix as this year's top dog.

Baby Cakes is also the ultimate lap dog.

"The other ones you sit and you pet a little bit, but this one goes on your lap and just sits there, it's just nice," patient Sheri Konopko said.

Baby Cakes' selection as the hospital's top dog put him in the running for the Spirit of Planetree Therapy Animal of the Year Award.

He, however, like his stature, came up a little short.

Baby Cakes did get a medal though.
