NEW HAVEN — One of two ex-Wesleyan University students charged with federal crimes in connection with a rash of on-campus drug overdoses is due in court next week.

Eric Lonergan, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is expected to appear in New Haven for a change of plea hearing Monday. The office of Lonergan’s attorney said he was not available to comment.

The other former student, Zachary Kramer, pleaded guilty earlier this month to possess and distribute the synthetic party drug MDMA — known as Molly — and synthetic marijuana. Prosecutors are recommending at least a year in prison for him.

Federal prosecutors say Lonergan and Kramer sold the drug on campus for more than a year before a night last February when several people were hospitalized with overdoses, including two who nearly died.
