Organizers hope Giving Tuesday will boost charities, help those in need
So you spent the past weekend eating everything in sight and buying gifts you and your loved ones probably don’t need.
Feel a little guilty?
It’s time to give back. #GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 in an effort to encourage Americans to give back to charity following their weekend of holiday gorging and splurging.
Giving Tuesday was started by the 92 Street Y in New York to unite individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving. Organizations can encourage monetary donations, volunteering and gifts of resources. Giving Tuesday said online donations to its partners has increased 470% in the past 3 years.
Over the years, it’s become a massive social media movement with many brands and organizations tweeting using the hashtag #GivingTuesday and posting on Facebook about ways to give.
