WATERFORD - For the third consecutive holiday season,  first graders from Waterford’s Great Neck Elementary School reported to the police station for duty. Christmas duty!

The police department’s Christmas tree in the lobby was begging for decorations. Over 50 eager children were up to the task Wednesday afternoon.

“They said that they've been looking forward to this since October,” said Sgt. Dana Seymour of the Waterford Police Department, who noted the local police union purchased and delivered all of the materials the children needed to create the decorations.

Adding to the students’ anticipation was the chance to deliver Christmas wish lists to Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and Buddy, their elf.

“Do you think you're on the good list this year,” asked Santa of one child. “I checked it twice and you were there.” The relieved boy smiled and darted away.

One student’s letter asked Santa what his favorite cookies are and just how bid his toy sack really is.

Another boy, when asked what one toy he would like most, replied, "I would like two toys."

There were requests for go carts, iPads, makeup and even a minnow trap.

“I love seeing all these kids happy with Christmas,” said Seymour.
