HARTFORD — East Hartford-based aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney has reached a 15-year agreement to maintain and upgrade aircrafts for the Israeli Air Force.
The Hartford Courant reports one business news service in Israel reports the contract is in excess of $500 million for Pratt & Whitney’s work on the entire fleet of F-151 and F-161 aircrafts.
The Israeli Air Force has been a customer of Pratt, a division of United Technologies Corp., since 1947.
Following a trend in the jet engine industry, Pratt expanded its spare parts business to include monitoring and repairs.
Bennett Croswell, president of Pratt’s military engine business, called the contract “a new benchmark for our military customers.”
The agreement is the longest in Pratt’s history for repairing military fighter engines. It begins on Jan. 1.
