WESTPORT – The coach of the Staples High School wrestling team was charged with narcotics possession early Saturday.

David Bernstein, 28, of Henderson Road in Fairfield, was pulled over on a regular motor vehicle stop at about 1:30 am on Saturday.

He had a warrant out for his arrest on a failure to appear charge out of Bridgeport Court.

He was arrested on that warrant and a search of his vehicle found a small amount of cocaine but not enough to charge him with selling, so he was charged with possession of narcotics.

He was held overnight on $3,500 bail and later released. The court date for the failure to appear is on Dec. 14 and for the narcotics charge is on Dec. 15.

Bernstein is listed as the Staples wrestling coach on the school’s website.
