NEW HAVEN — Three teens are facing criminal charges after police say they were caught attempting to steal three snakes and a tortoise from the East Rock Park Environmental Center.
The Hartford Courant reports the boys were each charged with burglary, criminal trespass and larceny in connection with the Dec. 4 incident.
Police say officers were dispatched to the New Haven park around 3:45 p.m. after a burglar alarm was set off.
Responding officers say they observed two boys outside the property when they arrived and a third was seen crawling through a broken window.
The teens had allegedly taken two ball pythons, a garter snake and a tortoise with them.
Police have not identified the trio, all between the ages of 16 and 17, because they are considered minors.
