MONTPELIER, Vt.  — With the first week of December already past: Where’s winter?

Here in Connecticut, high temperatures will be up around 60 degrees this week, which will help challenge a few record highs. Some overnight lows have actually been closer to the average high temperature for this time of year – nowhere near freezing.

New England ski areas are making snow but wishing Mother Nature would chip in.

Buffalo, New York, has already gone the latest on record into a winter season without measurable snow. In Vermont, Burlington could soon join it with a similar record.

A spokeswoman for the Vermont Ski Areas Association says they need snow in cities to the south to get people in the mood for skiing and snowboarding.

In Maine, an outdoor sports business owner says he’s anxious, but not panicked yet.

While in neighboring New Hampshire, a snowmobiling club official says the ground needs to be frozen to ensure a great snowmobiling season — and it’s nowhere near frozen yet.
