NEW HAVEN — Three teens are facing several charges after police said they assault an elderly man who works at Yale. On November 27, the 79-year-old was walking home when he was beaten and robbed by a group of 5 young men.
Thursday, December 9, detectives arrested Kelton Gilbert Jr, 18, of Hamden, and Lawrence Minor Jr, 19, of New Haven, and a 17-year-old who also lives in New Haven. All three were charged with assault, assault on an elderly person, robbery, larceny, reckless endangerment and conspiracy to commit all of the aforementioned criminal charges.
When the man arrived home, the victim’s wife answered the door and called for help.
“As EMTs took the man to the hospital, Officers began their search for the cowards responsible for this heinous attack,” said Officer David Hartman.
The three suspects admitted there were two others who participated in the robbery and assault, according to police. But, none would provide information on their identities.
The case remains under investigation. Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the attack or who may have information valuable to investigators, to call them at 203-946-6304.
