HARTFORD – You see the bells each year ringing outside of malls and grocery stores, and, of course, the big red kettle.
The Salvation Army needs a little more jingle in its Christmas campaign this year. the Southern New England chapter says it is behind on donations.
The non-profit said right now it is only at about 30 percent of its $2 million dollar goal.
With about 400 bell ringers and hundreds of other volunteers, the next few weeks are critical for collecting donations.
The organization blames a slow economy, less foot traffic at store locations, and the evolution of a cashless society to the decline.
