VERNON — A 71-year-old Mansfield man is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from a Willington Veterans of Foreign Wars post while he was treasurer. Authorities say he spent most of the money on Internet pornography.
The Journal Inquirer reports that Frederick Brown was arraigned Thursday on a felony charge of first-degree larceny at Vernon Superior Court. He is free on $50,000 bond.
A phone number for Brown could not be found and the court clerk’s office said Friday it’s not known if he’s represented by a lawyer.
State police said Brown admitted to using the money after being drawn last year to a website featuring women who perform erotic acts on camera.
VFW post commander Ray Gantick said as a result of the missing money, the VFW group is in financial difficulty
