2 Manchester kids safe after hiding during home invasion

MANCHESTER–Two Springfield, Massachusetts men were arrested on Tuesday after breaking into a Manchester home.

Around 10:30 a.m. a woman called police to report that her children were home alone and had heard people breaking into the house on Walnut Street. The mother was not home at the time.

The 11- and 12-year-olds were able to hide undetected, and were not harmed.

Police got to the scene before the suspects left, and were able to safely secure the kids and arrest the two suspects, who were hiding in the basement. A .22 caliber handgun was also found near the suspects.

Clinton Mitchel, 29, of Springfield, Massachusetts was charged with home invasion, burglary in the first degree, risk of injury to a minor, criminal mischief in the first degree and criminal possession of a handgun.

Michael Walters, 27, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was charged with home invasion, burglary in the first degree, risk of injury to a minor, criminal mischief in the first degree, criminal possession of a handgun and interfering with police.

Both were held on $500,000 bond.
