ELLINGTON--The investigation continues after a woman was found dead in her Ellington home, and a man was found injured.
At 10:16 a.m. on December 23, State Police responded to a home on Birchview Drive after a house alarm was activated.
When troopers arrived, they found smoke in the home, and also a man who had injuries, and took him to the hospital. His injuries weren't considered life-threatening.
Based on the initial review of the scene, K9 units were called in, along with the Eastern District Major Crime unit and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit.
As troopers searched the home in an effort to determine how the victim was injured and why the burglary alarm went off, they found a woman who was dead.
The injured victim has been identified as Richard Dabate, 39, and the deceased woman was identified Connie Dabate. Both live in the home in which they were found.
Richard is recovering at Hartford Hospital from his injuries, and police say it took a while to announce the death of Connie because they had to notify her next of kin.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, and police continue investigating to determine exactly what occurred.
For now, State Police spokesperson, Trooper Kelly Grant, said, "Are there signs this was a domestic dispute? Sure. But again, I'm not going to make that determination. They don't want to say that and then say someone broke in and then later on that it was a domestic dispute. Right now, it's being investigated as a suspicious homicide until we make a determination."
No charges have been filed yet as police continue investigating what occurred, but they say there is no risk to the community and residents shouldn't be concerned.
