TORRINGTON — Police are advising a western Connecticut dairy farm to install security cameras after vandals emptied roughly 300 gallons of milk from the family farm’s stainless steel storage tank.

The Republican-American reports Sherman Weigold noticed the prank at Weigold Farm in Torrington around 4:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve.

Karl Weigold, Sherman’s son, says the vandals must’ve come between the hours of 10 p.m. and midnight on Dec. 23. He says the storage tank had no structural issues.

The culprits unscrewed the massive tank’s cap and pulled a lever to release about $500 worth of milk. Weigold says one can assume that the vandals knew about milk tanks.

Weigold Farm was able to recoup its losses through online crowd-funding, which raised over $3,000 for the family as of Saturday night.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the farm and family.
