MERIDEN – Route 15 has reopened, more than 7 hours after it was shut down in the northbound direction near exit 68 after a fatal crash just before 6:30 Friday morning.

Police said Cesar Bonet of Meriden pulled over his 2001 Chevy S10 to the right shoulder while traveling North on route 15 ,or the Wilbur Cross Parkway. He pulled over and got out of his pickup truck to help another driver who hit a deer.

Police said Bonet was hit by Jorge Munoz-Palacios driving a 2008 Toyota Scion while he was standing along the road in the right shoulder. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Midstate Hospital in Meriden where he was pronounces dead.

Munoz-Palacios was taken to Hartford Hospital for non life-threatening injuries. His airbag deployed and both vehicles required a tow truck, according to police.

The case remains active.
