WEST HAVEN — Veterans living at several Connecticut retirement centers are being told they can remain at those facilities because of a provision in the new federal budget.
Two years ago, 23 veterans living at the Seacrest Retirement Center in West Haven, Highvue Manor in Hamden and Mattatuck Health Care in Waterbury were notified by the Veterans Administration Connecticut Healthcare System that their care in those homes had been erroneously covered, due to a VA error.
U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro says the recent, omnibus budget bill directs the VA to cover the cost for the veterans currently living at those facilities.
DeLauro, a Democrat from New Haven, says she plans to keep pushing for federal legislation that would allow other eligible veterans to live at such residential care facilities.
