SOUTHBURY — A vehicle attempting to evade a DUI checkpoint struck a Connecticut State Police cruiser late Saturday.

Troopers were conducting the spot check by the Exit 18 off-ramp on I-84 west at around 9pm when they witnessed an approaching vehicle come to a halt on the ramp.

Instead of continuing through lawfully, the suspect observed the activity for a moment and then proceeded to back down the off-ramp in reverse. The maneuver caused the individual to collide with a parked CSP vehicle.

The driver refused to stop after the crash and, without hesitation, fled away towards the city of Waterbury.

CSP officials report the vehicle was unoccupied and parked to the side off of the ramp’s travel portion. Although it sustained moderate damage, they were able to drive it back to police barracks from the scene.

The evading vehicle is described as a newer, silver-colored Infiniti sedan. Eagle-eyed officers were able to spot the letters ‘AA’ inscribed on Connecticut registration plates.

It is probable the vehicle has visible passenger side damage, possibly all the way from the front end to the rear.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, or with details that could lead to the identity of the operator, are asked to call Connecticut State Police Troop A at (203) 267-2200 or text TIP711.
