HARTFORD–The teen accused of committing Hartford’s first homicide of the year was released on a $250,000 bond on Tuesday.

Tequile Walwyn, 19, of Hartford, is charged with killing Jonathan Douglin, 20, of West Hartford, at a New Year’s Eve party in Hartford.

Walwyn, who is claiming self defense, will remain under house arrest until his next court appearance.

Hours after Walwyn was released, a vigil was held to honor Douglin, who died after being stabbed twice.

Friends and family joined to remember the young man, who played football when he was a student at Conard High School.

His mother, who was in attendance at the vigil, thanked everyone in attendance for their support.

“I’m so glad for the outpouring of love for my son, Jonathan. And that his life will not go in vain,” Sonia Douglin said.

Another vigil will be held at Sterling Field, behind the Charter Oak International Academy–where Douglin attended elementary school–on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
