EAST LYME — An accident on I-95 northbound left two people dead Monday morning.

The accident happened between exits 72 and 73 around 4:30 a.m., just north of the Rocky Neck connector.

State police said Katerina Barrett, 28, of Greenville, South Carolina, was driving a Volvo car in the left of two lanes when she passed, and then hit the side of a tractor-trailer driving in the right of two lanes. The Volvo spun left and hit the center median barrier, at which point it veered back into the road and was hit by a Kia on its passenger side.

Police determined that Katerina Barrett was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Kia was driven by Kenneth Graves, 72, of Providence, Rhode Island. He suffered serious injuries. A passenger in his car, Marie Graves, 69, died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Bekzhan Turumkulov, 27, of Chicago, Illinois, did not suffer any injuries.

The northbound lane was closed several hours.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Trooper Daniel Hoffner at 860-848-6500
