HARTFORD — The retrial of a Connecticut man charged with killing his mother and two houseguests on Thanksgiving Day in 2010 has started.
The retrial of 51-year-old Brett Bednarz began Monday in Hartford Superior Court with testimony from medical examiners and police officers who responded to the scene at an East Hartford home on Nov. 25, 2010.
Bednarz’s first trial last spring ended in a hung jury.
Authorities allege Bednarz killed his mother, 74-year-old Beverly Therrien, as well as 53-year-old Michael Ramsey and 60-year-old Pamela Johns in his mother’s home.
All three victims had been beaten to death. Although the murder weapon was never found, prosecutors think it was a drywall hammer.
The defense says there’s little evidence tying Bednarz to the scene.
Testimony is expected to continue Tuesday.
