Police executed a search warrant for a home on Quaker Lane in West Hartford on Tuesday morning around 5:45 a.m. after a long investigation that indicated the homeowner, Christopher J. Colby, was growing marijuana in his home’s attic.

State Police ESU bomb technicians also responded to the scene for the arrest since illegal fireworks were found and needed to be safely removed.

Police found a grow room in Colby’s attic and seized the following:

  • 66 marijuana plants in various growth stages
  • Several high-intensity lights and ballasts
  • Fertilizing agents
  • 27 mason jars with a large quantity of marijuana buds of varying strengths
  • A large quantity of THC butter made from extracted marijuana oils
  • Drug paraphernalia such as pipes and bongs
  • Some illegal fireworks

Colby, 34, was arrested and charged with cultivation of marijuana, operating a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of fireworks and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court on January 26.

The Department of Children and Families was notified of the arrest because a 3 1/2-year-old girl was found in the home, where she had access to the marijuana and fireworks.
