NEW HAVEN–A bad crash closed a major intersection in New Haven for much of the night on Thursday.

A motor scooter and a car crashed at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Church Street around 2:15 p.m. Those streets, as well as Rt. 34/Oak Street, were closed, but have since reopened.

The driver of the scooter, Angel Guilloty, 51, from Branford, was badly injured. He made it out of surgery, and is in serious but stable condition.

The scooter driver was driving on Church Street and went through a red light at MLK Jr. Boulevard, which can be seen on surveillance video detectives obtained. The other car, a Hyundai Sonata, was not at at fault and the operator is cooperating.
