NEW HAVEN --  Shelton Avenue and Starr Street in New Haven are now open after an overnight stabbing, robbery and car chase Friday morning.

Police were called to the area of Miller Street and Parmelle Avenue for a street robbery shortly after 3 a.m. when they found a victim, Gerry Torres, 31, with three stab wounds. Torres was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses on the scene told police that the suspects drove away in a red SUV and gave a partial plate number. Police spotted the car nearby and attempted to stop it but the car sped off.

Police then engaged in a low-speed police chase that went into Hamden near the Southern Connecticut State University campus then back into New Haven.

The chase ended on Shelton Avenue and Starr Street. One suspect tried to run away but was bitten by a police dog.

They suspects are Jeffery Carlton Evans, 40, Kourtney Thomas, 27, and Douglas Buster, 43. Buster had given a false name because he had an outstanding warrant.

All three suspects were checked out at the hospital: one for an injury sustained during his apprehension, another for asthma and the last for gout.
