Vernon nursing home worker arrested for stealing from patient

VERNON–Police arrested a woman who works at a nursing home after she allegedly took advantage of one of her patient’s financies.

The Fox Hill Nursing Home in Vernon filed a complaint with Vernon Police, and based on the complaint officers found that Debra Ellen Keller, 65, of Vernon, had embezzled about $16,000 from a 79-year-old man she was caring for.

The investigation revealed that Keller had used unauthorized ATM withdraws from the victim’s account and had forged 66 checks from his account made out to herself.

During the investigation into Keller, the victim died.

Keller was arrested on Thursday and charged with larceny in the second degree and forgery in the second degree. She was released on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on January 26.
