BOSTON — The owners of the Boston Bruins say they will donate at least $200,000 to help the professional women’s hockey player who suffered a spinal cord injury at the Winter Classic.

Denna Laing crashed into the boards at Gillette Stadium in an exhibition the day before the NHL’s showcase game on New Year’s Day. Laing’s family says she has limited feeling in her arms and none in her legs.

The 24-year-old Laing played at Princeton and for the Boston Pride of the National Women’s Hockey League. She works as a witness victim advocate at the Essex district attorney’s office.

Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs says the donation is the first step in continuing support for Laing’s recovery.
