MANCHESTER — A man killed while crossing a busy Manchester street on Friday has been identified.

Charles Miller, 68, of Bolton was critically wounded after a SUV struck him while walking across the intersection of Main and Pearl Street in the downtown area. He was initially rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital for emergency treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police say the vehicle operator is cooperating with the investigation and there is no evidence he was impaired at the time of the incident.

The accident occurred in an area which regularly sees heavy foot-traffic, due in large part to a number of restaurants, bars and shops that line the streets.

Detectives from the Manchester Police Traffic Unit are handling the investigation with assistance from the Metro Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team. Anyone who witnessed the accident or may have additional information is asked to call Officer Augusto at 860-645-5560.
