Tolland accident

ROCKVILLE — A public works employee who allegedly drove a dump truck, hitting and killing a fellow worker was due to appear in court Tuesday, but had his case continued.

William Burke, 56, was arrested on Friday, nearly a year after an incident last March in Tolland.

According to the Hartford Courant when Burke found out there was  a warrant for his arrest, he turned himself in. He was arrested and charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle.

Police reports say in March 2015, Burke was backing up a dump truck during a pothole job and killed David Ridzon, 50, of Willington.  Burke and Ridzon had patched hundreds of potholes before.  They were on Anderson Road and while backing up the truck to set a pothole, police say Burke ran over Ridzon.

Rizdon worked for Tolland Public Works and left behind his wife and two daughters. The incident was investigated thoroughly and police found no drugs or alcohol in Burke’s system and he wasn’t using a cell phone. An OHSA report shows there were no violations either.
