New Haven winter
HARTFORD --  Officials are waiting, watching and preparing for the storm that will hit on Saturday.

A winter storm watch has been issued for New Haven, New London, Fairfield and Middlesex counties. The exact track  of the storm will affect the amount of snow that falls in the state this weekend.

Gov. Dannel Malloy will give a storm briefing to state agency officials Friday. The briefing is set to happen at 12:45 p.m. at the Emergency Operations Center in Hartford. Metro-North says if there are delays, it will be posted on their website.

Airlines have made arrangements to waive fees for travelers to change flights leading up to snow storm.  To see delays and cancellations at Bradley International, go here.

Amtrak passengers will also face schedule changes. Trains in the Northeast Corridor have been canceled or will operate on a modified scheduled for Friday and Saturday. For more information, go here.

Rick Fontana, the Deputy Director of Emergency Operations for New Haven, said his team has been meeting for more than a month and is prepared for the uncertainty of this snowy forecast.

"We're gonna prepare that we are going to get eight inches of snow and put all of our eight inch plans into place," said Fontana.

"Our goal as I said is public safety if first and foremost, make sure people can in fact get to where they are going, make sure the streets are clear and our fire and emergency personnel can get to where they are going."

New Haven will unveil eight new, smaller trucks to clear the 221 miles of roads in the city. These trucks are more nimble and will help with intersections and narrow streets.

The city also implemented a new program this year to alert the public of a snow emergency. Blue lights have been installed at 20 major intersections which will help the city get the word out on parking bans. Call (203) 946 SNOW for the most up-to-the-minute information.

If the city issues a parking ban, remember to park on the odd number side of the street.

Students at Quinnipiac University will be allowed to move in a day early due to the storm.

SAT exams are canceled in some towns. For more information, go here.
