The call came in just after 3:15 p.m. when an employee working in the building called 911 to report heavy smoke coming from the basement.
Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke showing from all doors, windows and roof of the unoccupied building.
It took a little over an hour to get the blaze under control.
There were no injuries to firefighters despite the difficult environmental conditions. Crews were still on-scene as of 7:45 p.m.
There is extensive damage to the building interior on all floors but the building exterior is still intact. The building is owned by American Legion Post 102 and was built in 1921
Representatives of the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Manchester Building Department remained on scene Saturday evening investigating the fire’s cause and origin.
