TOWNSHEND, Vt. — Vermont state police say a drunken driver drove across a town common and struck a gazebo that was featured in the 1988 Chevy Chase movie “Funny Farm.”

Police say a 71-year-old Connecticut man was charged with driving under the influence after the accident that occurred at 9:42 p.m. Friday on the Townshend town common.

Authorities say David Page’s blood-alcohol content was .181 percent — more than twice the legal limit for intoxication. He had been driving north on Route 30 in the southeastern Vermont town when he drove onto the common. Page, of Groton, was taken to the Southern State Correctional Facility.

Page is due to appear in superior court in Windham on Feb. 9. He did not immediately return a call seeking comment. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
