WESTPORT — Police investigating a car break-in chased several suspects in a stolen vehicle and arrested two people.

Police were called to a report of someone trying to get into a car on St. John’s Place around 1:15 a.m. Monday.

The homeowner told police there were two dark-colored SUV’s and a dark-colored sedan in the area at the time. Police saw three vehicles matching the descriptions leaving the area and approaching Route 15 and attempted to stop them but  all three fled at a high rate of speed.

Police said they pursued the vehicles, one of which was a black Ford Edge with California license plates, but they stopped the pursuit due to high speeds and icy road conditions.Ten minutes later, police said they located a juvenile male walking in the area where the pursuit began. Police detained the young man and determined he was involved in the incident.

Police said while they were talking to the juvenile, one of the vehicles they had pursued earlier, a Ford Edge with California license plates drove by them on Weston Road. They pursued the Edge again and the driver attempted to sideswipe and ram the pursuing officers. The SUV was eventually stopped on Route 15 near the North Avenue overpass in Westport, and one suspect was taken into custody and they found the Ford Edge was reported stolen out of East Haven.

Police arrested Jerrell Brodie, 18, of New Haven, He was charged with larceny, attempted assault, reckless endangerment and other charges. Brodie was held on a $75,000 bond. The juvenile was not identified.

Another vehicle was stolen from Colonial Road in Westport overnight. Police said the car was involved in a pursuit in New Haven and East Haven one juvenile was arrested and charged with evading responsibility, interfering with police and tresspassing . Police are investigating if the cases are related.
