BRISTOL–A local amusement park is being fined for creating a dangerous environment for employees.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Lake Compounce, located in Bristol, for 18 serious workplace safety violations.

OSHA said that employees are exposed to hazardous chemicals and not properly trained to work with them. Also, employees aren’t given the proper safety equipment to work with the chemicals or electrical.

The park’s parent company, Palace Entertainment Holdings, is being fined $70,200 for the violations.

“These conditions exposed Lake Compounce Family Theme Park employees to serious burn, fire, chemical burn, electric shock and eye, face and hand injuries. The employer must act promptly to effectively eliminate these hazards before they injure its employees,” said Warren Simpson, OSHA’s area director in Hartford.

The company has 15 days to comply with or appeal the decision.
