ROWAYTON -- Inspired by "Schoolhouse Rock," Dre Towey loved to croon a tune when she was growing up.

"Around the house, like a goofy kid, singing and dancing in the living room," remembers this Norwalk mom, who didn't pursue a career in music.

Instead she became a teacher who dabbled in writing and illustrating children's books. But when she saw an associate perform in front of a group of tots, her love of song came rushing back. "I was like, 'Oh, that's what I want to do,'" remembers Towey. "It was this perfect circle of kids and everybody was just enraptured and paying attention and learning through the music."

Now, more than a decade later, Towey has just released her fifth album, "In A Pickle," and is part of a growing group of musicians dedicated to making "cool" music for kids.
