GREELEY, Colo.–A Connecticut man is facing federal charges after driving three days across the country to have sex with a mother and her two underage daughters.

However, the mother and daughters didn’t actually exist; an undercover Homeland Security Investigations special agent was the one who the suspect, Jason Tremblay, 28, of Ledyard, had been communicating with.

Tremblay was arrested last week in Greeley, Colorado after a joint investigation by HSI, the U.S. attorney’s office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Starting in December 2014, an HSI special agent began looking into individuals who used a website to sexually exploit children. The website allowed for the user to narrow his or her interests with terms–including “incest,” “jailbait,” “rape,” “incest” and “teen”–as well as to post advertisements soliciting others with shared interests.

In November 2015 the HSI special agent posted an advertisement on the website claiming to be a fictional mom living in Greeley, Colorado who had a 10-year-old and 14-year-old. The fictitious mother received an email from a person, later identified as Tremblay, who asked if she was “active with [her] girls.”

The agent and Tremblay began communicating back and forth, and on January 6 Tremblay sent a photo of himself to the agent. The agent then sent photos claiming to be the mother and daughters, at which point Tremblay and the agent arranged to meet for sex involving the children.

On February 2 Tremblay left Ledyard and drove 29 hours to Greeley. On February 4, at 2:20 a.m., Tremblay was pulled over by a Greeley police officer for a suspicion of driving under the influence. The officer asked what he was doing in the area, at which point the HSI agent and Colorado State Police officers arrived to arrest Tremblay.

Tremblay was charged with one count of aggravated sexual abuse with children, one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and two counts of attempted coercion and enticement.

The aggravated sexual assault charge carries a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of life in prison; the travel with intent charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years; and each attempted coercion charge carries a sentence of 10 years to life in prison. Each count also carries a fine of a maximum of $250,000.
