NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – A Meriden man police arrested at the scene of a large and disruptive fight on the Smith College campus in Northampton, Mass. in October has been continued without a finding, according to masslive.com.

The disposition means that the charges against Lenroy A. Neysmith, 26, of Meriden will be dismissed after Aug. 2016 if he abides by his probation and is not charged with new offenses, according to court documents.

Neysmith was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer. The resisting arrest charge was dropped in Hamsphire District Court Wednesday.

Police responded to reports of a 400-to-500 person party that had turned violent near Smith College’s Ziskind House at around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 4. Those involved – an estimated 70 people – could be heard yelling and screaming, police said.

The party was sponsored by the Smith College African Caribbean Student Association and manned by just one college police officer, court reports said.

As responding police attempted to hold back fighting in all directions, two Northampton officers tried to restrain Neysmith, who was already being held back by several friends, records said. Neysmith was struggling to break free and start a fight with another group of people, police said.

Court reports said that Neysmith was fighting and wrestling with officers, as well as pushing, grabbing and flailing his arms.

Northampton Police delivered a burst of pepper spray to Neysmith’s face, but he continued to resist officers, reports said.
