FAIRFIELD–A former employee of the BJ’s Wholesale Club in Fairfield has been arrested for stealing from the company.

Police say that Shakeem Fowler, 22, of Bridgeport, admitted to stealing more than $14,000 while he was working at the store. He was using the money to pay for college tuition at Western Connecticut State University.

According to police, Fowler worked in the liquor department and would delete cash transactions from the computer, and instead pocket the cash. He stole about $600 each weekend.

Last September the store called police to report the on-going thefts, and it was determined Fowler had been stealing for more than a year.

Fowler is charged with second-degree larceny, and bond was set at $50,000. He will appear in court February 19.
